Are you the 1?

It is estimated that 1 in 133 persons in Canada are affected by Celiac disease, an autoimmune deficiency which is activated by eating gluten.

Hair loss, weight loss, weight gain, bloating, bone or joint pain, depression, unexplained anaemia, infertility, fibromyalgia, failure to thrive in infants, and Dermatitis Herpetiformis are just a small sample of the disorders and diseases resulting from or exacerbated by Celiac Disease.

Celiac disease is a medical condition in which the absorptive surface of the small intestine is damaged by gluten. This results in an inability of the body to absorb nutrients: protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, which are necessary for good health.

Celiac disease is one of the most common genetic conditions in the world yet 97% of people with Celiac disease go undiagnosed. Now simple blood screening tests are becoming available to help the process of diagnosis. At present there is no cure, but Celiac disease is readily treated by following a gluten-free diet.

Rawmbas has pledged to donate 100% of their tips to the Canadian Celiac Association to help bring awareness to the disease. As well, we will be featuring "Spotlight" stories on our www.Rawmbas.ca website. If you would like to share your story regarding your experience with Celiac, such as how you or a family member was diagnosed or are living with celiac, please email us at info@rawmbas.ca. We would appreciate your contribution.

Together we can help make a positive difference in the lives of those living with Celiac disease or non-gluten sensitivity.
